LUNAR ECLIPSE - this is for tonight!
Arkansas (and many other states) will have the chance to view a deep partial lunar eclipse this evening.
The eclipse will last over 5 hours, but the best viewing is from around 10:30 to midnight.
The maximum is 11:12 PM CT.
The moon will pass through Earth’s shadow, you might notice a red/copper tone while viewing.
Look southeast and enjoy! No special equipment or glasses needed.

How It Works
Light Filtering: Sunlight is made of all the colors of the rainbow. When this light streams through the edges of Earth's atmosphere, short wavelengths of light (like blue and violet) get scattered and blocked by the air molecules and dust.
Light Bending (Refraction): Longer wavelengths of light (like red and orange) easily pass through the atmosphere without getting scattered away. The atmosphere actually bends (refracts) this leftover red light inward, projecting it directly into Earth's dark shadow and onto the face of the Moon.
As NASA beautifully describes it, a blood moon happens because you are seeing the glow of every single sunrise and sunset on Earth projected onto the Moon all at once.
The exact shade of red can actually change from eclipse to eclipse. If the Earth's atmosphere is full of dust, smoke from wildfires, or ash from volcanic eruptions, the Moon will look an even darker, more dramatic crimson color.
